Summary The
Parks Service and Forest Resources of the Region Emilia-Romagna has
published a map navigation tool (http://www.regione.emilia-romagna.it/natura2000/indice/gisweb.html)
which allows consultation online for geographic databases on the regional
information system of protection of natural heritage. The tool shows the
network of natural parks and Natura 2000 sites (SIC and ZPS), extended to
about 13% of region, almost 3000 square kilometers, and highlights the Map
of Community interest habitats, the result of investigations about
detection, location and representation of the natural environments of most
interest for conservation, conducted over 71 types of which 21 forest. At
the same time, is available the specific description of habitats, with
some considerations about management, found in the manual attached “The Community
Interest habitats reported in Emilia-Romagna” posted to the
site http://www.regione.emiliaromagna.it/natura2000/download/testoRER_habitat_natura_2000.pdf.
So the Map of Community interest habitats in Emilia-Romagna is a virtual
window wide open nature, designed for professionals but adressed to the
general public as a powerful tool to disseminate environmental issues.
It’s also the first step in the development of measures for the
conservation and management guidelines, currently under study, to be
shared and taken to ensure the preservation of species and habitats in
favourable conservation status. The forest biodiversity, in particular, is
expected to be favored by adopting specific criteria for biological and
structural diversity, basically passing through the care of dead wood and
regeneration of the woods, under careful and integrated planning of
forestry choices. A
set of general guidelines for planning and forest management in Natura
2000 sites, is followed by discussions on specific coltural and logistical
arrangements for action by conservative aims not only to the environment
and species, but to forestry too, to be implemented as a basic principle
of assessing the impact and as a useful reference for sustainable forest
management.
