Riassunto
Summary
The
aim of this work is to build a geographic data base of burned areas within
the National Parks for the period 2001-2005 using satellite images. Around
five hundred Terra-ASTER (NASA) images and twenty SPOT images were
acquired and processed. These images presents spectral and spatial
resolution suitable for mapping burned areas. Methodologies adopted for
processing include visual interpretation, multiple threshold of spectral
transforms (NBR and BAI) and automatic classification technique. In this
five year period the overall burned area amounts more than 5000 ha (fire
average size 7,7
ha) and
the most affected Parks were Cilento and Pollino, responsible for almost
the half of total burned surface. Validation has been done with
appropriate statistical technique. A comparison with data made available
from CFS (AIB/FN database and GPS polygons) indicated the validity of
satellite maps and confirmed the importance of space and ground based
techniques integration for an efficient forest fires monitoring.
