Nearest neighbors methods are becoming increasingly popular in the field of natural resources, with special regards to forest applications. Experiences in the use of these methods range from imputation of single tree characteristics to regional scale multi-source forest attribute mapping.
Following the results achieved with the first Nearest Neighbors workshop (held in Minneapolis, USA, from 28 to 30 of August 2006) the goal of the 2007 Nearest Neighbors Workshop is to continue in sharing current applications and research findings and in doing so, foster new partnerships and ideas. The workshop will include presentations from researchers from around the globe.
The workshop is co-sponsored by several IUFRO units under
Division 4 – Forest Assessment, Modelling and Management:
4.01.00 – Forest mensuration and modelling
4.02.00 – Forest resources inventory and monitoring
4.02.04 – Geographic and management information systems
4.02.06 – Resource data in the boreal and temperate regions
4.03.00 – Informatics, modelling and statistics
4.03.01 – Uncertainty analyses of spatial and non-spatial
models
4.03.02 – Computing methods in forest biometrics
4.03.03 – Information management and information
technologies
At this time, we invite you to present your current applications and research of nearest neighbors methods at the 2007 Nearest Neighbors Workshop.
Please continue to check this website, as more information about the workshop will become available.
