Titolo: L’evoluzione dell’insegnamento forestale: il caso Italia
Title: The evolution of Forestry Education: the Italy case

Summary: The “Forestry Sciences” were formed to solve the problems that arose as a result of the centuries-old relationship between man and forest. After the description of the origins of teaching forestry in Europe in the mid-eighteenth century, are illustrated the major changes that have occurred in education to this day. The training programs will take more autonomy in the various countries and the length of courses change from two to four years. The growing population of the world, that occurred starting from the mid-nineteenth century, requires Forestry Sciences to contribute to the solution of global problems such as climate, defence and conservation of forest resources. The 70’s represents the beginning of a greater consideration of the multifunctional role of forests that had to lead, after the Rio Conference on the environment, at the recognition of the key role of forests for the survival of populations. This event has a positive influence in forest education and so there is a new interdisciplinary curriculum taught in many University Departments. Since 1999, in Italy, in addition to the traditional four/five-year degree, have been introduced bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in order to facilitate a more rapid entry of students into the labor market. After the application of the recent Gelmini law with the abolition of the Faculties and teaching entrusted to the Departments, the Forestry Education results very fragmented and only partially fulfills the requirements of the labor market. It would therefore be desirable to overcome the general uncertainty by the realization of the meeting among the stakeholders of the forestry and environmental sectors.
